Flu Season Wellness: Can a Myers Plus Glutathione IV Support Your Recovery?

As flu season begins to circulate earlier this year, many people in Maryville, Alcoa, Blount County, Loudon County, and Monroe County are looking for practical ways to feel more like themselves after an illness.

One question I hear is whether a Myers IV, particularly a Myers Plus Glutathione IV, may be appropriate during recovery. The short answer is that it may provide optional hydration and nutritional wellness support after you are feeling better, but it is not a treatment for influenza and it is not a replacement for medical care.

I’m Bonnie, a registered nurse and the owner of Smoky Mountain Hydration. I administer our services according to established clinic protocols, with screening and safety checks before, during, and after every appointment. My goal is to give you clear information so you can make a comfortable, informed decision without pressure.

First, Know When an IV Appointment Is Appropriate

When you have the flu or another contagious illness, rest at home and follow guidance from your established healthcare provider. An IV wellness appointment is not appropriate while you are actively sick with a fever.

For your safety and the comfort of other clients, you must be fever-free for at least 24–36 hours before your appointment without Tylenol, ibuprofen, or another fever-reducing medication. Your symptoms should also be improving rather than worsening.

This means you should not use medication to temporarily lower a fever and then come in for an infusion. If you still have a fever, feel acutely ill, or are unsure whether you are ready to leave home, please reschedule and contact your healthcare provider as needed.

The purpose of this waiting period is straightforward: it helps ensure that you are past the more acute stage of your illness and that you are not exposing others while seeking wellness support.

What Is a Myers IV?

A Myers IV is an intravenous infusion that combines fluids with selected vitamins and minerals. At Smoky Mountain Hydration, our Myers Cocktail blend includes:

  • Lactated Ringer’s solution or normal saline

  • B-complex vitamins

  • Vitamin B12

  • Magnesium

  • Vitamin C

These nutrients are delivered through an IV, allowing the infusion to enter the bloodstream directly. People commonly ask about Myers IVs when they feel run down, have had difficulty maintaining normal meals and fluids during an illness, or want additional nutritional wellness support as they return to their usual routine.

However, it is important to keep expectations realistic. A Myers IV will not eliminate the flu, kill a virus, prevent future infection, or guarantee a faster recovery. You should not expect a dramatic, immediate transformation. Some clients describe feeling more refreshed or supported afterward, while others notice a more gradual difference or no significant change.

What Does “Myers Plus Glutathione” Add?

Our Myers Cocktail PLUS Detox blend includes the Myers Cocktail ingredients along with glutathione.

Glutathione is an antioxidant naturally produced by the body. It is often included in wellness services focused on antioxidant and nutritional support. In the context of recovery, I describe it as an optional addition for clients who are interested in broader wellness support after illness, not as a medication or a cure.

The word “detox” can sometimes create unrealistic expectations, so I want to be clear about what this service does not do. Myers Plus Glutathione does not remove influenza from the body, cleanse an infection, replace the immune system, or substitute for an antiviral medication when one is medically appropriate.

If you are considering this option, I will review your current situation and follow our established clinic protocols for screening, safety, and administration before proceeding.

What the Experience Looks Like, Step by Step

Knowing what will happen can make the appointment feel much more manageable, especially if you are still rebuilding your energy.

1. You contact us and choose an appointment time

You can review our IV therapy services and request an appointment through our online appointment page. If you are recovering from flu-like symptoms, let us know when scheduling so we can confirm that the timing is appropriate.

2. We review your recent symptoms

Before the infusion, I will ask about your recent illness, current symptoms, medications, allergies, hydration, and general wellness concerns. I will also confirm that you have been fever-free for at least 24–36 hours without fever-reducing medication.

This screening is an important part of the process. It helps determine whether a wellness appointment is reasonable or whether you should first speak with your primary care provider or another medical professional.

3. We prepare you in a quiet, comfortable setting

Our environment is designed to feel more like a spa than a traditional clinic. You can settle into a comfortable chair, take a breath, and decompress while I prepare the infusion and explain what to expect.

Every service is administered by a registered nurse, and licensed staff remain involved throughout the appointment.

4. The IV is placed

I clean the skin, place the IV, and check that the line is functioning properly. You may feel a brief pinch or pressure during placement. If anything feels uncomfortable, let me know immediately so I can make an adjustment.

5. You relax during the infusion

The infusion runs gradually. You may read, listen to music, talk quietly, or simply rest. I monitor you during the appointment and remain available for questions or concerns.

Some people experience a cool sensation in the arm or a mild taste in the mouth during certain infusions. These sensations are usually temporary, but you should always report anything unusual or uncomfortable.

6. We complete the visit carefully

When the infusion is finished, I remove the IV, apply a small dressing, and review general aftercare. You can take your time before leaving. I typically encourage clients to continue drinking fluids, eat nourishing food as tolerated, and avoid treating the infusion as permission to immediately return to strenuous activity.

Oral Hydration and Rest Still Matter

If you are able to drink, oral hydration remains an important part of recovery. Water, broth, herbal tea, and electrolyte beverages may all be useful options depending on your preferences and your healthcare provider’s guidance.

An IV is not automatically better than drinking fluids. IV hydration may be considered a convenient wellness option for an appropriate client who is recovering and able to attend safely, but it is not intended to manage serious dehydration or complications from influenza.

If you cannot keep fluids down, are urinating very little, feel unusually weak or confused, or have symptoms that concern you, please seek medical care rather than arranging a wellness infusion.

When to Contact a Medical Provider

Flu symptoms can overlap with other illnesses, and some people are at higher risk for complications. Contact your established healthcare provider if you need help determining whether you have influenza, whether prescription treatment may be appropriate, or whether your recovery is progressing normally.

Seek prompt medical attention for symptoms such as:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

  • Chest pain or persistent chest pressure

  • Confusion, severe dizziness, or difficulty staying awake

  • Severe weakness or unsteadiness

  • Very little or no urination

  • Symptoms that improve and then return or worsen

  • A worsening of an existing health condition

A brief medical-care note: Smoky Mountain Hydration provides optional, nurse-administered wellness services. Bonnie is a registered nurse who administers services according to clinic protocols, but she is not acting as your diagnostician or prescriber through this service. Consult your primary care doctor or another established healthcare provider for diagnosis, prescription treatment, urgent symptoms, or interpretation of lab results. An IV wellness service is not a substitute for medical care.

Is Myers Plus Glutathione Right for You After the Flu?

It may be worth discussing if you are:

  • Fever-free for at least 24–36 hours without Tylenol, ibuprofen, or another fever-reducing medication

  • Experiencing improving symptoms rather than an active or worsening illness

  • Able to leave home safely and sit through an appointment

  • Interested in optional hydration and nutritional wellness support

  • Looking for a calm way to pause and care for yourself while returning to your routine

It may not be the right next step if you are still acutely ill, unable to drink, experiencing significant dehydration, or showing warning signs. In those situations, medical evaluation should come first.

Recovery is not always a straight line. Fatigue and cough can continue after the worst symptoms have passed, and it is reasonable to give yourself time before resuming demanding work, exercise, or travel.

A Calm Next Step

If you are recovering from a seasonal illness in the Maryville, Alcoa, Blount County, Loudon, or Monroe County area, you are welcome to ask questions before deciding whether a Myers or Myers Plus Glutathione IV fits your wellness goals.

You can call us using the phone number listed on our website, request a time through the online appointment page, or message us through the app if you already use it. I will review the basic safety requirements with you and help you determine whether scheduling now makes sense or whether waiting is the better choice.
